چکیده

Instructional design in complex subjects requires the application of a sophisticated theory of cognition. Instructional techniques and strategies that work at the knowledge and comprehension stages of cognitive development may actually inhibit learning at more advanced levels. Evaluation and synthesis require a different cognitive paradigm. The theory of cognitive flexibility is a case-based approach for the development of upper-level cognitive skills, particularly the ability to transfer knowledge to novel situations. This paper applies the theory of cognitive flexibility to instructional design in economics. An example from monetary economics illustrates the adaptation of cognitive flexibility hypertext to a knowledge management interface. ** * ”Simplification of complex subject matter makes it easier for teachers to teach, for students to take notes and prepare for tests, for test-givers to construct and grade tests, and for authors to write texts. The result is a massive “conspiracy of convenience”. Spiro, et al, 1987, p.180. ** The URL for the interface is http://brainserver.thebrain.com/get.asp?i=a3f95

A Comparison of Structured and Unstructured Navigation through a Cbt Package

The advent of hypertext has opened up new possibilities in computer-based training. The design of courseware without any predetermined structure could make the designer’s task easier, and allow greater flexibility for the trainee to structure the learning environment to suit their own learning style. This investigation was concerned with the exploration of performance differences in structured ...

Cognitive Flexibility, Constructivism, and Hypertext Cognitive Flexibility, Constructivism, and Hypertext: Random Access Instruction for Advanced Knowledge Acquisition in Ill-Structured Domains

A central argument of this paper is that there is a common basis for the failure of many instructional systems. The claim is that these deficiencies in the outcomes of learning are strongly influenced by underlying biases and assumptions in the design of instruction which represent the instructional domain and its associated performance demands in an unrealistically simplified and well-structur...

Hypertext and Learning: an Overview

Despite the vast and rich panorama of hypertext research, to date there are still no clear definitions of what hypertext really is. Classical references describe the concept "hypertext" as a non-linear way of thinking, reading, and accessing the information which is best done on the computer screen. This paper shows the present situation where hypertext is seen as the interaction between the le...
